“Housesitter” was a 1992 romantic comedy. Goldie Hawn played Gwen, a desperate down-and-out lady with charm, but also a penchant for lying. Steve Martin played Newton, a heart-broken architect who abandoned a house he designed and built. Gwen “faked it until she made it” and moved into Newton’s home without his consent. Since it was a romcom, Newton returned and was shocked to see Gwen living there. They overcame tribulations, fell in love, then Newton learned to tell big lies in order for their relationship to work.
“Fake it until you make it” is not the worst strategy on the way to achieving goals, but it’s ideally only a phase. It’s something done to keep your head above water. It’s something done to live to fight another day.
Donald Trump is a fraud. His good friend, Jeffrey Epstein, was a fraud as well. Jeffrey taught math and physics at Dalton, an elite private New York prep school, even though he was in his early twenties and had no college degree. He was a two-time drop out. Most presidents have had elected office experience, but Trump faked his acumen on reality TV until he found himself in the White House. Most math and physics teachers have college degrees, but Epstein didn’t. He left teaching and made massive money on Wall Street. No doubt, these guys had special skill sets, but they also had fatal flaws. Trump’s flaws are too big for “presidential immunity” to hide. Besides his cult followers, he is now seen as a bafoon! The world has never witnessed anything like it! Russian news is televising naked pictures of Melania! Trump tells Putin to tone down military action against Ukraine, then Putin immediately ramps it up! The entire world is now laughing at Donald Trump!
“Fake it until you make it” is not a permanent strategy. Eventually, you’ve got to “make it” or else you’ve got to reconsider your goals. Donald Trump is out there still faking it! His cabinet picks are a total joke! People are wondering, “Is he preparing to be president, or does he think he’s headed back into reality TV?” Trump never learned to be a public servant. Throwing tantrums and always threatening people? Name calling? Obsessing over a golfer’s ding dong? You would think we could do better than this, but sadly we can’t. This is the dystopian beginning of the Idiocracy phase of the United States of America! Up next? Complete collaose of a once-great nation!
Or else non-stop laughter! Late night talk shows will never have so much material to work with!
