There’s a spectrum of human behaviors. On one end, you have idealistic harmonizers who emphasize equality within a group. They are egalitarian in nature and ultimately desire world peace.
On the other end, you have one uppers. Life is a competition. You must achieve success, and you must perform better than anyone you. The extreme one upper rejects harmony, and doesn’t know how to leave competitive mode. If you want a guaranteed kick in the crotch, mention anything positive about yourself to a one upper. The response will not be one of interest. Instead, the one upper will tell you how hers or his circumstance is way better.
Donald Trump is the world’s worst one upper ever, and he’s not even a good one. Now and then, there will be an annoying, self-centeted accomplished athlete who brags that he’s the very best… but at least his claims could be verified in some objective way. Trump, on the other hand, blatantly lies or else delves in hidious delusions. In a national nightmare, it looks like he’s going back to the White House. If you’re not familiar with the “one upper” term, you’ll see plenty of examples as we roll into 2025 and beyond.
